Francis Lickerish

Francis began his professional music career as a founder member of The Enid, that extraordinary classical rock band that achieved cult status during the 70’s and 80’s.

Along with Robert Godfrey and Willie Gilmour, he was one of the main contributors to The Enid’s highly individual and accomplished sound. He has also appeared as a session player in several unexpected places such as Kim Wilde’s Kids in America and on former Incredible String Band member Malcolm LeMaistre’s solo album. He even did a stint as a bass player in a well-known 70’s reggae band!

For the last three years, Francis has been writing Secret Green’s "To Wake the King" album. This music is a return to the sound of the early Enid and incorporates all of Francis’ musical influences.

Francis has a love of British music and folklore;
To Wake the King has a uniquely English sound that reflects this.

As well as composing and playing for Secret Green, Francis is also an accomplished lutenist. The lute is a sadly neglected renaissance instrument of great delicacy and beauty. It has an intimate, other-worldly sound that is evocative of ages past and courtly elegance.

Sting has recently gone someway to reviving the beautiful and extensive repertoire of lute songs and music in his Labyrinth series.

The lute, along with Hilary's delicate English vocal style adds another dimension to Secret Green's live performances.

Francis recreates the wonderful music of John Dowland, possibly the greatest lutenist of all time.
